Our building is a public building and can be used by any member of the public, you are not required to be visiting a show to use our building. The information below is here to help you plan your visit to HOME.

 

 

Building Information and Facilities

  • Our individual toilet cubicles are open for the public to use and are cleaned once daily.
  • You are able to charge your mobile phone for free in our building if a power socket is available.
  • You are able to relax in our public spaces during opening hours. Tables in our restaurant are reserved and the Café bar may be limited during busy periods.
  • There is free wifi which does not require a password.
  • You are able to get water from our cafés and restaurants or refill your water bottle.
  • Our Customer Service team can make emergency calls for you.

There are three floors in total in the building, and these are all accessible via two lifts in our main foyer, to the right of the entrance. Both lifts have higher and lower buttons, one lift has a mirror.

For an accessible seat in Cinema 1, you will be guided via an alternative lift by a member of our Customer Services Team

All of our spaces, including the Gallery, Cinemas and Theatres, are accessible for wheelchair use.

  • Theatre 1 has three Wheelchair Spaces, all located within the Stalls; two spaces are on either end of Row K, about half-way back from the front, and there is also a space in Row N, at the rear. These are tagged as WC1, WC2 and N8 respectively.

When booking one of these spaces, please select the ticket type ‘Wheelchair User’ – this will provide you with a designated space, for your wheelchair, from which to watch the performance.

If you are bringing a companion, please add the seat next to the Wheelchair Space to your basket, selecting the ticket type ‘Essential Companion’.

This ticket type is free.

If you would like to transfer from your wheelchair into a seat, please contact access@homemcr.org and we will be very happy to arrange this for you.

  • Theatre 2 has two Wheelchair Spaces, both located on either end of the second row.As seating is unallocated within Theatre 2, we’d ask that you please contact access@homemcr.org to let us know if you would like to use one of these spaces and we will ensure it is reserved for you.

    Please also email us at this address if you would like to transfer from your wheelchair into a seat.

Cinema 1 has four Wheelchair Spaces – two at the rear, accessible via lift, and two at the front
Cinema 2 has two Wheelchair Spaces – both in the back row, near to the door
Marina’s Cinema has one Wheelchair Space – adjacent to the penultimate row, near to the door
Cinema 4 has two Wheelchair Spaces – both in the back row, near to the door
Cinema 5 has two Wheelchair Spaces – both in the back row, near to the door

As our Cinema seating is unreserved, please contact access@homemcr.org to let us know if you need one of these spaces and we will reserve it for you. Please also email us if you would like to transfer from your wheelchair into a seat.

If you will be bringing a companion with you, please add an additional ticket to your basket and select the ticket type ‘Essential Companion’. This ticket type is free.

Additionally, you can phone our Box Office on 0161 200 1500 to make access arrangements, but please note that staff may be unable to answer the phone during busy periods.

  • There is the option to take the stairs between every floor of our building.
  • These staircases are wide and not steep with handrails on both sides, people tend to pass each other with ease.
  • Between the Ground and First floor there are 34 steps.
  • Between the First and Second floor there are 43 steps.
  • From the bottom to top floor there are 75 steps altogether.

  • There are two accessible toilets on every floor, six in total.
  • There are single sex toilets on every floor.
  • There are two sets of all gender toilets on the ground floor, one has urinals and cubicles and one has only cubicles.

  • There are baby changing facilities on every floor.
  • Parents are welcome to breastfeed wherever they want to.
  • We have regular parent and baby screenings in our cinema you can check these timings
  • There is room to leave any push chairs outside of our cinemas and theatres. During our Parent and Baby screenings in Cinema 1, push chairs can be taken into the cinema.
  • The Café and Restaurant can provide hot water.

 

 

HOME provides a range of relaxed performance and screening offers. Where possible they will include access to a Quiet Space where you can take some time out.

  • Hearing Induction Loops support customers with hearing aids that are switched to the T setting. We have audio induction loop systems at our Box Office and in our cinemas and theatres.
  • Customers with hearing aids may also want to take advantage of the Sony Wifi audio amplification available in our cinemas and the Sennheiser Infra-red amplification available in our theatres. Please request a headset or receiver for these services from our Box Office.

Some films, theatre shows and gallery installations may contain flashing imagery and strobing. If this is the case, information will be provided in advance via in-venue signage, HOME’s website or advance email information relating to theatre show bookings.

To make advance access bookings, please contact access@homemcr.org, call our Box Office on 0161 200 1500 or drop into the venue. The below facilities can be booked in advance and tickets collected upon arrival from Box Office:

  • Concessionary tickets
  • Essential Companion tickets can be arranged for all events
  • Wheelchair spaces – available in all of HOME’s spaces
  • Assistance Dog space reservations
  • Audio Description is available for selected events
  • Caption Subtitles are available for selected events
  • British Sign Language is available for selected events
  • Relaxed events are programmed each month for those with Autism spectrum conditions

HOME is located on Tony Wilson Place, First Street, Manchester. This is on the other side of the railway viaduct that runs along Whitworth Street West and roughly opposite the Hacienda apartments.

The closest drop-off point is approximately 100 metres from HOME’s entrance. This drop-off point is located on Whitworth Street West at the open railway arch labelled Jack Rosenthal Street. This is next to Belvoir Lettings and leading to Starbucks.

Once dropped-off, follow the pedestrian-only Jack Rosenthal Street to the right to find HOME’s entrance.

Blue Badge holders can park on Whitworth Street West in a parking space near to the open railway arch labelled Jack Rosenthal Street which is approximately 100 metres from HOME’s entrance. Once parked follow the pedestrian-only Jack Rosenthal Street to the right to find HOME’s entrance.

There is also the Q-Park First Street multistorey carpark with 28 accessible parking spaces. This car park is located across from HOME on Tony Wilson Place at First Street. The pedestrian car park entrance is approximately 30 metres from HOME’s main entrance and is located facing the pedestrian public square, Tony Wilson Place. Please note that Blue Badges are not valid for free parking in the Q-Park.

HOME customers may receive a 25% parking discount by pre-booking in advance via the Q-Park website, using the code HOMEMCR25. Regrettably, Q-Park are no longer able to offer any on-the-day parking discounts.

The 256 bus from Piccadilly Gardens stops on Medlock Street. The bus stops are located 50metres and 150metres from HOME’s entrance.

Get off the bus and walk towards HOME which is visible from the road.

Alternatively, you can use the free buses which link main rail stations, car parks, shopping areas and businesses in the city centre. Free buses run from Piccadilly, Salford Central, Victoria, Oxford Road and Deansgate train stations. There are three circular routes covering the city centre (the Route 3 stops near HOME on Whitworth Street West from 7.30pm apart from on Sundays). Visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website to view the Free Bus map and to plan your journey.

HOME is located between Oxford Road train station and Deansgate train station.

Deansgate train station is closest at 0.2 miles or 320 metres away.

To find HOME, exit the station via the ramp and carry on in the same direction towards the junction at the City Road Inn and the Hacienda Apartments then cross the road towards the large red building labelled Innside.

Go under the railway archway labelled First Street until you reach the entrance to the open pedestrian square. HOME’s entrance is to your left.

Oxford Road train station is 0.3 miles or 480 metres away.

To find HOME, exit station approach and turn left down Whitworth Street West. Go past Gorilla and then Gloucester Street on your left and continue until you reach the open archway next to Belvoir Lettings. Go through the open archway, following the pedestrian-only Jack Rosenthal Street to the right to find HOME’s entrance.

Piccadilly train station is 0.7 miles away.

To get to HOME, you can take a train to Deansgate or use the free bus detailed above.

Victoria train station is 1 mile away.

The closest tram stop to HOME is Deansgate-Castlefield which is 0.2 miles or 320 metres away. There is a lift at this station to travel between platform and road level. To find HOME, exit the lift on Deansgate, turn left and travel up Whitworth Street West and under the pedestrian walkway that connects Deansgate train station to the tram stop. Carry on until you reach the junction at the City Road Inn and the Hacienda Apartments then cross the road towards the large red building labelled Innside.

Go under the railway archway labelled First Street until you reach the entrance to the open pedestrian square. HOME’s entrance is to your left.
